LBTI Caucus Statement at the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women / Beijing+30

Every year, feminist activists from around the world gather in New York City for the UN Commission on the Status of Women. This year, we mark the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the outcome of the Fourth World Conference on Women at Beijing in 1995. 

It would be impossible to reflect on the “Beijing agenda” without remembering the immense contribution of queer feminist activists, who, under the banner of the “lesbian tent”, made history by carving out a space for themselves, visibly advancing their agenda and demonstrating their place as leaders in global feminist movements. The tent was a dynamic space for diverse people, organizations and collectives, and served as a challenge - not just to member states, but other feminists as well.
